Stop! Collaborate and listen; supporting the health and well-being of LGBTIQ+ young people in Victoria

Description

Rainbow Network has been facilitating the exchange of ideas, and supporting the development of models for good practice for providing services and support to LGBTIQ+ young people in Victoria for 20 years. In this presentation we take a look at the evolution of services for LGBTIQ+ young people in Victoria by comparing 3 models of practice for supporting the health and well-being of LGBTIQ+ young people. These examples span a range of contexts, diverse in geography and access to resources. Drawing on evaluations, and feedback from young people and workers we tell the story of the challenges and successes of each of these models. We also look at the role of Rainbow Network- as a State-wide facilitator of shared learning and collaborative approaches- in supporting the development of these approaches. Funded by the Victorian government as part the Healthy Equal Youth (HEY) Project Rainbow Network coordinates a network of over 1000 youth work professionals across Victoria with a commitment to create services and communities that are safe, inclusive and affirming for same sex attracted, intersex, trans and gender diverse young people . Rainbow Network provides professional development and resources as well as opportunities for members to exchange ideas, information and resources; keep up to date about the latest research and build partnerships.
